VertiGals are a group of women who meet Wednesday mornings at 9:45a.m. in front of the Simplot Lodge ski check, January through March, to ski or snowboard and have fun! There is no cost involved to join VertiGals, but a lift ticket or Bogus Basin season pass is needed. This is a social group, not a group lesson.

IMPORTANT: IF YOU SIGNED A RELEASE LAST SEASON (2007-2008) YOU WILL NOT NEED TO SIGN A NEW ONE THIS YEAR. ONLY NEWCOMERS OR THOSE WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN VERTIGALS LAST SEASON WILL NEED TO COMPLETE A RELEASE FORM THIS YEAR (download a release form PDF file here>>). Upon turning in your release form, you will be placed on a private email list and will receive VertiGal updates via your email address.

There are 12 volunteer leaders (these ladies are not instructors) who know their way around the mountain and ski at ability levels intermediate to expert, on trail and off . You can choose to join any one of these groups for the day, depending upon your own ability and comfort level with the terrain and conditions. Look for the leaders in their VertiGal logo jackets, with badges designating their group level:

Green = front side groomed blue and green trails/slopes
Yellow = Intermediate backside groomed trails/slopes
Blue = Advanced intermediate/conservative expert backside groomed trails and some off trail as conditions permit. Check with your leader.
Red = Expert all-terrain and off trail, as conditions permit
All participants should be at least competent on the Green and Blue runs serviced by the chairlifts on the front side of the mountain.

  • Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding begins on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009. Meet at 9:45 outside in front of the Simplot Lodge ski check, ready to go! We will take a few minutes to organize the groups, and depart from the base area at 10:00 A.M. PLEASE BE ON TIME…the groups need to have a full morning of fun! We will have our potluck lunch on our opening day (see the calendar, below). Afternoon skiing is optional and on your own.
  • Want to carpool? Alpine days: meet 8:30am-8:40am at the LDS Church parking lot on Cartwright Road (near Simplot Hill). Nordic days: meet 9:00am. Please do not park in the Ridley's Market  lot - you risk getting your car towed.
  • Potluck Lunches each month (see calendar, below, for dates and details) at 12:30pm. Always a good time with great food!
  • VertiGals Nordic Program begins Thursday, January 8th, 2009
    Cross country skiing VertiGals meet on Thursdays January-March from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Nordic Center. Clinics on Skate or Classic Technique are offered, as well as informal skiing to workout, practice, and explore the trails. Your Bogus Basin Alpine Season Pass is valid at the Nordic Center. Ski rentals are $6, the clinic is $10, or you can commit to the entire season in advance for a package price of $80 for 10 Thursdays of clinics and rentals. Call the Nordic Center at 332-5390 to reserve a spot in the weekly clinics. 
  • Sun Valley & Brundage Ski Trip(s): Check calendar, below, for dates. These are all day luxurious bus trips, lots of fun and very popular.

 Regular alpine ski/board days 9:45am-12:30pm. Please note that the Special Olympics World Winter Games Alpine competition is on the Bowl and Coach this week - parking may be limited but the lodge is open. Be a fan and cheer on the athletes!

March 18th "CORN SNOW CHARITY PROM" and LAST POTLUCK LUNCH  final day of official VertiGals season. Dressing up is NOT required so don't let that keep you from joining us - we hope everyone can join the fun for our final day on the slopes and great food during the Corn Snow Charity Prom!
