JIII Junior Olympics

March 21-24, 2008 at Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area

Hosted by the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance (BBSRA) www.bbsra.com

The Competitors ~
The top 200 racers in the J III age group (13 and 14 year olds) from Alaska and the western United States are coming to Bogus Basin!  Several top JIV (11-12 year olds) from the west and Alaska will also be here as part of the JIV Festival event.

These young ski racers have been training and competing in races events all winter. Only the top finishers will go on to the next event, which is in Whistler, British Columbia to compete against the other top racers from the eastern U.S. and Canada.

These young athletes will compete in the Super G on Paradise run (off Pine Creek chairlift #6) going from top to bottom in a minute. The Giant Slalom event will be down the Ridge/Bowl on the front side (off of Deer Point chairlift #1) along with the Slalom races on Sourdough run, also off of  Deer Point chair lift #1. View our trail maps.

Where to watch?
The public is invited to cheer these racers on and see the wonderful venues Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area has to offer.  A lift ticket is required to access the course on Paradise from Pinecreek chair #6, and you must be able to ski or snowboard to get onto the chairlifts-foot traffic isn't allowed. Spectators can easily walk to the finish lines and watch the GS and Slalom races coming down the frontside off of Deer Point (within easy walking distance and line of sight from Simplot Lodge).

Past competitors of this event include Idaho’s own Picabo Street, Dane Spencer, Erik Fischer and Hailey Duke, all present or former members of the US Ski Team.

J IV Festival ~
The J4 festival is where three men and women from each division (15 of each total) in the 11-12 year old age group are invited to participate in Junior Olympics. They will all race the same races as the J III athletes, just they are scored and awarded separately.
