Ability Chart
This is the chart used by Bogus Basin alpine ski and snowboard instructors to determine your ability level. You can use the
alpine trail map to select appropriate terrain based on your ability level at Bogus Basin.
ALPINE ABILITY LEVELS

Beginner
Level 1: Never Skied before
Level 2: Wedges to a stop on the easiest green trails and rides beginner lifts
Level 3: Wedge turns on green trails |
Intermediate
Level 4: Wedge turns with a parallel turn finish(Wedge Christie) on green and easy blue trails.
Level 5: Parallel skiing with some wedge turn initiation(Christie) on blue trails
Level 6: Parallel skiing confident on blue trails |
Advanced
Level 7: Parallel skiing on black trails, exploring a wider variety of terrain
Level 8: Dynamic parallel on black terrain, exploring tactics for variable conditions
Level 9: Dynamic parallel on all terrain in all conditions |
SNOWBOARD ABILITY LEVELS

Level 1: Never snowboarded before
Level 2: Traverses to a stop on the easiest green trails and rides beginner lifts |
Intermediate
Level 3: Links heel & toe side turns confidently on green trails
Level 4: Links heel & toe side turns on blue trails, exploring a wider variety of terrain |
Advanced
Level 5: Dynamic riding on black terrain, exploring tactics for variable conditions
Level 6: Dynamic riding in all terrain in all conditions
